Greener Classroom

I had high hopes for this site. The first three lessons I looked at were really good. If only my printer had been working... Anyways, the lesson spanned across all grade levels and subject areas. The main topic was obviously becoming a "greener" classroom by teaching how to be "green" at home.
The first lesson I looked at talked about using the Dr. Seuss book The Lorax and having students journal about the resources that were used and that could have been saved. It incorperated science, social studies and language arts. I liked it because Dr. Seuss is a familiar person to the children and it was a new way to look at one of his books.
The second lesson I looked at was a chart of the amount of trash and type of trash found at a beach clean up. Students were suppose to find new uses for the trash that was found on the beach. I also though you could have them make a bunch of graphs with the data also. Again, it blended many subject areas together.
The third lesson plan I looked at was all about resources. It talked about consuming, saving and the different types of resources. These ideas are all in the third grade academic standards. Again it spanned across the subject areas. It included a lot of worksheets as well as hands on activities.
When I clicked on the fourth lesson plan, I was denied. You have to have a subscription, (50 bucks) to look at anymore. I'm sad now because I didn't print out any of these lessons :( They were good. There is a trial subscription, which I may get as soon as my printer is fixed!

This site was perfect for me! It has poetry about bubbles. For those of you who don't know, April is national poetry month! So I'm thinking a lesson about bubbles with poetry all outside! My school also does a something called ABC countdown to summer. It takes place the last 26 days of school. We do an activity each day that goes with a letter of the alphabet. I think I may change B from beach reading to bubbles!

I cannot wait to try out some of these. They look to be all free. I am teaching soil right now and have changed my unit around. So, I will need to create a new test. I will try one of these sites and post how easy (or hard) it was to use. I'm not very tech savvy so it should be pretty accurate.

This article was very helpful. Ben and Jess were correct in saying so. I plan to print this out and keep at my desk at home and work. The calculator function blow my mind. I never knew you could do that. I am always looking for a calculator at home and this will be so much faster than pulling up the one through computer accessories. I also like the money conversion application. We do several stories in our reading series that talk about different cultures. We also do a unit on economics. It would be a fun lesson to have students convert American dollars into money from the stories we have read.

DNA Workshop Activity

This activity would be great for high school teachers. The student gets to practice putting together and tearing apart DNA strands. The site explains how the process happens in real life also. I have used the pbs site for other activities in my classroom. They have great activities for all grade levels on their site.

I found this site confusing. There was not a place for you to search for the title of a book you may want to discuss. As a third grade teacher I don't think this site could be used in my classroom.
